The Universe Game
Sometimes we get so busy with our should do's, must do's and have to's, we lose sight of our enjoyment of life. We do the things we're supposed to do, the chores, the cooking, the job, the kids, and we forget to take care of ourselves. This game is designed to bring play and fun and spontaneity back into life. The rules are a guideline, not a mandate. Make up your own if they don't suit you. The main thing is, you're allowing a new experience to occur by taking a chance and doing something just for you.
All it takes is a roll of the dice to see what the Universe has in store for you today. You and the Universe are conspiring for you to live a life of fulfillment, joy and appreciation. Those who love you will love you for taking care of yourself. |
HERE'S HOW TO PLAY
Supplies: You’ll need a piece of paper, a pencil and 2 dice. You may want a journal, too. (See below for journaling bonus info)
Instructions: Make a list of up to 11 things you wish you were making time for now. Like going to the movies, reading, journaling, going for a walk, meditation, yoga, art, writing... you get the idea. Start your list at 2 ( because you can’t roll a 1 with 2 die!). You may not have 11 and that’s okay. You wrote this in pencil because you’ll add and subtract things from your list periodically.
Put the list in front of you, hold the dice in your hands, close your eyes and ask the Universe to give you what you need today. Take another deep breath, open your eyes and roll the dice.
Now, find the item on your list that corresponds to the number on the dice. That’s the thing to do today! If you roll a number larger than you have items on your list, go back to the top and keep counting until you’ve reached the number on the dice. If the activity that came up does not resonate with you, you can re-roll. But try not to do it more than once.
This game is to get you doing something for yourself every day that lights you up. It's meant to be fun so enjoy yourself. You can even play multiple times in a day! It’s up to you and the Universe.

Bonus
The items on my list didn't get there out of thin air. I've been neglecting them, these things I enjoy doing. And usually if my list makes up at least six items, I'm not having as much fun in my life as I'd like. Sometimes I don't even notice it and someone has to point it out. Yikes!
I find journaling about my experience has it live deeper and longer within me. I get to enjoy what I did twice. How awesome is that? If you want to really dig into your experience, you too can add a journaling exercise to your adventure. After you're done your activity, journal about it. These are some of the questions I ask:

If you want to really dig into your experience, you too can add a journaling exercise to your adventure. After you're done your activity, journal about it. These are some of the questions I ask:
- Was I excited to "get that one?" -- I like to ask this one because sometimes getting permission to go to a movie or hang out at the library scratches an itch I hadn't realized was there.
- What was I expecting? -- What did I think it was going to be before I did it?
- Describe the experience in detail. Where did I go. What did I do. How did I feel. What was the weather like? Who did I meet. Did anything interesting or unusual happen?
- Did I enjoy it?
- What was most memorable about the activity?
- What was my biggest takeaway?
